– Spend wisely – consider if you can manage without the item, shop around for the best deal, keep a wish list and write it down for consideration in the future.

– Keep track of your spending- utilize apps for your phone to snap pictures of all your receipts and review them weekly to determine if you are spending your money the way that best serves you.

– Check your bank account and set up notifications if your balance gets below a specific amount. This not only serves as a reminder to check your spending, it can alert you early to fraud, and save you overdraft fees.

– Find ways to spend less. Make dinner rather than eat out, declutter and see what you can sell and what you may “find” hidden in the far corners you never knew you had, reuse and repurpose items in your home.

– Communicate! If you share finances with someone else, communicate what’s going on and any expenditures that could negatively impact the financial plans you have.
